World "1st" INTEGRATING Self healing BIOS CHIP!!!(block malware ,discrepancy, tamper, APT, etc.,)

HP to ship new PCs with self-healing BIOS

One of the wonders of the human body is that it heals itself. The damage might be self-inflicted, like an accidental fall, or it could be caused by an attacker. Either way, the human body is tremendously adept at repairing cuts, scrapes, bruises, and other ailments. HP is taking that same concept and applying it to the PC's Basic Input/Output System, otherwise known as the BIOS.

It's called BIOSphere with SureStart technology, and according to HP, it's the industry's first and only self-healing security solution created to help organizations better mange risk and protect user and IT productivity. Developed with HP Labs, the self-healing BIOS can return to a previously safe state if attacked by malware or otherwise corrupted, such as by a failed BIOS update.

Protecting today’s computers against sophisticated malware requires more than just an up-to-date antivirus app. HP is ramping up protection on its PCs by integrating self-healing BIOS chips that will be able to fend off firmware-level infections.
The process is simple enough. At boot time, the active BIOS is checked against a pristine BIOS image (presumably read-only) that’s securely stored on a machine. If there’s a discrepancy, the system assumes tampering has taken place and the questionable BIOS is overwritten. Any malware that tried to go resident in the BIOS is wiped out, without any intervention by users. HP’s self-healing systems simply shrug off the infection and restart as they normally would.
HP and Google has built similar functionality into Chrome OS. Chromebooks and Chrometops can, however, heal the entire OS if something nefarious is detected at startup not just the BIOS.
Gigabyte, too, has been doing this for nearly a decade. Dual BIOS was designed more as a way for hardcore PC enthusiasts to recover from failed firmware updates or overclocking mishaps.

A secondary BIOS chip provides an easy way to get things back to normal and today that even includes repairing damage from a firmware infection. And just like HPs new tech, Gigabyte’s Dual BIOS setup can heal itself silently in the background.

So why has one of the world’s top PC manufacturers decided to introduce self-healing BIOS now?
HP’s Michael Park says that Microsoft has made Windows much more secure, but that “there’s a lot of malware will come in under the OS and take over the underlying BIOS.”
“A lot” is an exaggeration. Malware that targets a system’s BIOS does exist, but it’s not very common. The bad guys never stop looking for ways to exploit a system, however, and BIOS is a very juicy target.
HP BIOSphere with SureStart technology, a self-healing security solution created to help organizations better manage risk and protect user and IT productivity.

HP has added the HP SureStart solution to its multilayered HP Client Security solutions portfolio to provide customers with an even stronger security protocol that defends against unauthorized system access.
“The security landscape has become more complex as threats become more sophisticated and employees require device flexibility to coincide with their changing working environment,” said Lorri Jefferson, director, Tablets and Software Strategy, HP. “These breakthrough security offerings are simple, seamless solutions that address these converging trends by delivering enterprise customers the ultimate fighting mechanism for mitigating risk, threats and negative business outcomes.”
HP BIOSphere with SureStart technology is the first solution of its kind to enable virtually uninterrupted productivity for enterprise users by preventing corruption and providing self-healing from malware or unlikely failed PC BIOS updates. Regardless of reason— intentional malicious attack, unknown cause, a failed update or other accidental cause—HP SureStart recovers the PC BIOS for continued user productivity and reduced IT help desk requests.

With HP SureStart, customers no longer need to worry about the safety of their PC BIOS updates. Security and reliability improvements are delivered straight to the customer, via the web or customer’s internal web site. This out-of-the-box solution is based on the HP BIOSphere, HP’s industry-leading firmware ecosystem that includes the HP BIOS and a secure embedded controller. The HP BIOSphere enables both HP’s Client Security and Client Management Solution offerings by automating the protection of data as well as robust configurability and manageability for HP business PCs.

HP SureStart technology provides the ultimate protection against malware attacks of the PC BIOS, preventing user downtime and IT support requests. When combined with HP BIOS Protection,(2) the solution detects, prevents, reports and allows auto recovery of advanced persistent threats (APTs).

Initially HP will roll out its SureStart technology globally on its EliteBoks beginning this fall.

A Portland based company has launched a Kickstarter project that is looking to change the way families manage their internet usage in the home.

Elamenco Inc. is a startup which has created a device called Circle, which allows internet usage to be managed via an iPhone app. Circle connects via Wi-Fi to a router, with no ethernet cable required. The device is powered by a micro USB cord, and contains an internal battery to keep the device humming without being plugged in.
“As a parent, we have an obligation to learn how to live with technology and help our children explore the internet in a balanced, safe and smart way. Circle empowers me to stay on top of and effectively examine my household’s internet habits, and provides tools to improve our family’s online experience.” – Circle founder and CMO, Crystal Wiley
Circle provides a number of features to users, such as time management, smart filters, notifications, safe mode and ad blocking. The device pairs with any iOS device to allow users to configure the desired internet management parameters.

Check out Circle’s Kickstarter campaign and help the device reach it’s $250,000 goal.

New Kickstarter Campaign Helps Families Redefine Internet Use
Circle’s beautiful new product design is the first to empower families with the choice of how and when they spend time online

A beautiful new product design managed by an iOS app, Circle connects seamlessly to computers, tablets, smartphones, TV streaming devices, and MP3 players—to help parents manage kids’ internet use, tech enthusiasts understand their own online habits and small business owners increase employee productivity.

Providing balance to the digital age, Circle helps navigates life in the screen-driven world by allowing people to choose how online time is spent with smart filtering, time management systems and informative overviews. There is nothing like it on the market – a brilliant device managed by a smartphone to help families reconnect each and every day.

“The internet is an invaluable resource and we created a smart network tool to ‘talk’ wirelessly with your router and each household device to filter and manage content based on personalized settings for each device and each individual,” said Circle founder and CEO
Jelani Memory “With a strong market need for Circle, Kickstarter backer contributions will help fund engineering, parts and tooling and finalize the iOS application so Circle can be brought to life.”
Not to be confused with a router, Circle wirelessly connects to a Wi-Fi router and there is no need for an Ethernet cable to provide connectivity. Circle works from anywhere in the home or small office, to help anyone connected to the internet locate appropriate content and build desirable online habits.

Key features

TIME MANAGEMENT: Circle can manage online usage by allowing timed access based on by category (i.e., two hours for social media, one hour for gaming, etc.)
SMART FILTER: Set individual filtering levels by category for each device on a network to ensure only age/user-appropriate content comes across
INFORM & NOTIFY: See at a glance the amount of time kids and users spend on certain sites or a category of sites. Set customizable notification schedules for both positive and negative internet activity on devices in the home or business from the Circle app
PAUSE MODE: Temporarily restrict online access to every device on a network; schedule a device-free dinner in advance, or set Pause Mode manually at any time
BEDTIME MODE: Set downtime for individual devices on the Circle network
SAFE MODE: Safe mode automatically recognizes and adjusts filtering settings for network devices when operated by children under five years old; an adult or older sibling can easily unlock Safe Mode when they resume using the device
AD BLOCKING: Toggle off web advertisements so they don’t show on any devices within the network
IMPLIFY: Easily activate Circle via the circular button on the back of the device, creating its own Wi-Fi network and ability to add users, tag the devices Circle recognizes and set up filtering, time management and notification setting preferences
SECURE CONNECTION: Circle remains active even when unplugged and has no off button; the only way to adjust or change Circle’s filtering and time management settings is through the iOS app, which is password protected and can only be downloaded on a single smartphone.
“As a parent, we have an obligation to learn how to live with technology and help our children explore the internet in a balanced, safe and smart way,” said Circle founder and CMO, Crystal Wiley. “Circle empowers me to stay on top of and effectively examine my household’s internet habits, and provides tools to improve our family’s online experience.”
